First solo album of the Breton double bassist Xavier Lugué, Wood is the fruit of his multiple adventures with this instrument too often reduced to its mere bass line function. Throughout his originals compositions, he explores with the bow as the pizzicato a lyrical universe with accents of world music carefully orchestrated by layers of rhythmic chords reminding of traditional dances’ energy. Some other tracks are closer to actual music as they tend to sound more mineral and rock, extending the range of double bass’ sound.
